Captain Dave Endorses Diehl for Senate

Gloucester, MA … Today while touring Gloucester and visiting with fishing industry leaders Representative Geoff Diehl, the endorsed Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, announced that he has received the endorsement of Captain Dave Marciano of Wicked Tuna.

“I’m endorsing Geoff Diehl for U.S. Senate for the simple reason of the abject failure of our current representation . Under her watch, as well as others, we have lost thousands of fishing industry and related jobs the past 8 years,” said Marciano.

“If current representatives were graded on how well they represent the fishermen in the Commonwealth, it would be an F.   In the fishing industry if you fail to do your job you are “ off the boat.” The current Senator needs her walking papers or swimming papers as the case may be due to her failure to protect fishing industry and related jobs. She sat back and watched the middle class fishing families be destroyed by out of control government,” added Marciano.

“I am honored to have received Captain Dave’s endorsement. Over the past year, he has educated me on the fishing industry and how federal regulations are threatening the livelihood of our fishermen. As the next U.S. Senator, the problems of the fishing industry will not fall on death ears. Fishermen will finally have a Senator they can count on,” said Diehl.

Marciano is the Captain of the Hard Merchandise that fishes for Bluefin tuna. His boat and crew are featured on the National Geographic show –Wicked Tuna. The show is a competition of Gloucester fishermen on how many pound of tuna they can catch. It gives viewers an upfront view of how difficult and dangerous fishing can be.

The Diehl plan calls for repealing monument status that has closed vital fishing areas, and developing common sense regulations to ensure the protection of marine life. Diehl has talked with many local fishermen to develop the plan including Captain Marciano.

“Contrary to popular rhetoric, fishermen are staunch supporters of ocean preservation. Their livelihood depends on a vibrant stock of fish. I am happy to defend these hard workers that supply food for us. For far too long, Senator Warren has ignored their needs,” said Diehl.

Diehl has traveled repeatedly to New Bedford and Gloucester to meet with fishermen to hear their concerns directly.
